From the 24th – 30th of October, it’s Asexuality Awareness Week! A space and time to mark the 11th anniversary and learn more about Asexuality.
For those unaware, Asexuality is a person who experiences little or no sexual attraction to other people [definition], however, just like every identity out there, each individual experiences it uniquely and there is no right or wrong way to be Asexual.
At the forefront of the Asexual visibility movement is British Model Yasmin Benoit, who you’ve most likely seen online looking incredible whilst making ace-history.
As the creator of #ThisIsWhatAsexualLooksLike, their work often brings light to many asexual misconceptions and shows you that being Asexual doesn’t look just one way.
To celebrate Asexual Visibility Week, Yasmin has made history by collaborating with Playful Promises to create the first-ever Asexual theme lingerie campaign!
By incorporating the Asexual flag into the shoot, the two have busted myths whilst looking, may we say, hot, in the process.
The campaign aims to show that asexual people can still feel empowered through fashion/lingerie, with Yasmin looking incredible with pieces from Playful Promises.
As for the impact, this campaign will play an important part in Asexual Visibility, Yasmin took to Instagram to share her excitement, “As an openly asexual Black model, I’m really proud to be part of this moment. It’s something I really pushed for and hoped to achieve but it never seemed realistic for someone like me.
The purpose of the shoot was to provide more diverse representation and let the world know that #ThisIsWhatAsexualLooksLike.”
