My story is very average and to be completely honest I am very lucky. I came out when I was 19years old, not because I was worried about what other people thought when I was younger it’s just when I realised. The realisation was amazing everything clicked together it all made sense now!!
The tricky part… I was currently in a relationship with a guy, looking back at it now we were just very good friends and I did love him but as a friend. As soon as I realised I knew I had to be the one to tell him. Needless to say it didn’t go down too well!! He asked me if it was his fault. Trying to explain what your only just trying to work out yourself isn’t easy but I had my Mum to help me through it all.
It was like my life was restarting
At this point I now had to move back in with my Mum which was very far from my work and it was like starting over again. But this time I could be myself this was my opportunity! So I ran with it, I moved to Tenerife for 6 months did a season and had the most amazing time. (not forgetting the best tan).
When I came back I then started working as a cloakroom assistant in the south coasts biggest LGBT+ venue. I’ve worked my way up to duty manager and I must say I meet the most amazing people. I have worked there for 4 Brighton prides now and as stressful that is it’s the best atmosphere. It’s amazing to see so many people come together and celebrate the ability to just be who you want!!
I say I’m lucky and that because I have the most amazing and supportive mum in the world!! @lorrainej613 shout out to those supportive parents!! In a sense we are all lucky now as we unite as a community… we are family LGBT+.
