Shereece – Stop Sexualising Queer Womxn

Over the years I have somewhat developed a phobia of straight clubs. I know that sounds so ridiculous but it’s the brutal truth. Every single time I’ve been to a straight club with a girlfriend, we’ve been disrespected and made to feel very uncomfortable.

When we kiss, instantly guys think we are doing it for their entertainment and feel no way approaching us to ask if we are REALLY a couple. (This is usually after 20 minutes of trying to catch our attention by standing incredibly close, attempting eye contact and talking about us loudly). 1 in every 20 guys then, will be a gentleman.

They will bow out gracefully and leave politely. *BE THIS GUY* And then we have the other 19 out of 20… who were clearly raised in a barn. They ask a million invasive and inappropriate questions ‘Have you ever slept with a guy?’ Are you sure you’re really gay? Or even better… ‘I could turn you’ or ‘can I watch?’ 🙃 no John, no you cannot watch! I don’t approach you and ask if a girlfriend has ever played with your butthole… because it’s rude and none of my business. They end up taking up loads of our time, we try to shut it down and not be rude but honestly your patience runs thin when it’s several times a night. In the words from Save the Last Dance ‘we spend more time defending our relationship than actually having one’.

At the age of 26, I sure as hell don’t go on a night out to debate MY sexuality with a stranger or to be stared at like an animal in the zoo! Lesbians aren’t sex toys or actresses in your very own movie. We are real people who fall in love, with genuine relationships and when we go out we just want to be accepted and respected just like any other couple.

PLEASE STOP SEXUALISING QUEER WOMEN!
