Nicole – Stop Sexualising Queer Womxn

Being a part of this campaign symbolizes empowerment to me! It’s empowering because it allows me to define myself as a queer woman alongside other strong queer women! We are diverse, we are human, and we are ourselves!

It’s important to me because we define ourselves. I define myself. First off, my presentation is for me. My body is mine. Its not to discriminate against or offend. It’s not to grab or touch, or to catcall. It’s not owed to anyone! It’s mine!

Secondly, my sexuality isn’t open for anyone to interpret but me. I also don’t owe explanations for my sexuality! I was born this way!
When people ask ‘curious’ questions about my sexuality, it’s often rooted in voyeurism, or hateful intentions. It’s rooted in ways where the questioner intends to try and ‘trick’ someone that they aren’t queer. As if that is even possible. Trust me, it’s not.

A few other things you can do to avoid sexualising queer people are to not ask how queer people have sex. Don’t ask who the man in the relationship is. Don’t ask ‘what’s your real gender.’ Respect a queer persons sexuality just as you would a heterosexual persons sexuality.
