Fans of the queer, Canadian indie pop twins, Tegan and Sara, have something special to binge later on this month.
“High School,” which follows the twin’s memoir, will premiere on Amazon Freevee on Oct. 14, 2022. At first, it seems like a coming-of-age teen story of two queer twins in the 1990s who would later go on to become internationally recognised indie artists.
But quickly, we realise it’s deeper than that (it always is!). With Executive Producer and queer icon, Clea DuVall, we’re excited for this to hit our screens and finally see a queer story that goes above and beyond.
DuVall goes on to share with Billboard “I was hyper-intentional in making sure that the tone of the show was right. I didn’t want to give way to tropes of queer trauma or simplified queer joy; I wanted to create a simulacrum of the all-encompassing experience of growing up LGBTQ.”
Teagan and Sara are played by TikTok creators Railey and Seazynn Gilliland.
According to Amazon Studios the show is, “a story about finding your own identity—a journey made even more complicated when you have a twin whose own struggle and self-discovery so closely mimic your own. Told through a backdrop of ‘90s grunge and rave culture, the series weaves between parallel and discordant memories of twin sisters growing up down the hall from one another.”
We can’t wait! Take a first look at “High School” below:
